MAPP Presentations
I've had the pleasure of speaking to high school students about MAPP and sharing my personal story with Melanoma. During the presentation, students learn about Melanoma, what their skin type is, the ABCDE's to identifying Melanoma, and ways to protect their skin from harmful UV rays.
After my experience, I see how important it is to realize the bad side to tanning at an early age. I started tanning when I was about 14 or 15 years old, so I know exactly how high school age girls feel about tanning and wanting that dark, bronze glow all year long. Plus, in high school, everyone thinks they are invincible and nothing bad will happen to them. Well, I hope students see things like skin cancer CAN happen to them at an early age. I am living proof. Luckily, I was fortunate enough to have a doctor who caught my Melanoma at an early stage before it spread to other parts of my body.
Melanoma, a type of skin cancer, CAN KILL YOU. I don't know if people really see skin cancer as a threat to their life, but it is and someone dies of Melanoma every hour in America. Through MAPP, I hope to change one life at a time for the better with them understanding what Melanoma is, how danger it is, and how they can protect their skin to avoid Melanoma. (Hint: Stay out of the tanning beds!!!)
